What's your skin age?

You have a hair ritual at least monthly, wear clothes to flatter your body type, fuel your body with healthy foods, and work out to burn those extra calories…are you leaving your skin out?

It's the truth- your skin really can tell your age! And for some, it can add 15+ years! YIKES!

Then there are some women (think Cindy Crawford) who look 20 years younger than they really are. Not fair, right?!

But what if I told you all their secrets to their ageless beauty? And it's not a miracle serum, cream, or supplement. It's simple: treat your body well, and it will treat you well. Let me further explain in skincare terms:


  1. Get regular facials- seriously. Skincare services greatly influence how your skin will function for the next 28-34 days, and by exfoliating, extracting clogged pores, and hydrating, your skin will work in tip-top shape!
  2. Start a regular homecare routine- while your esthy is working on all your skin issues at your monthly facial, ask her what products you should be using at home and how (this is KEY) you should be using them. I explain to all of my facial clients that professional treatments will contribute to 20% of your results, while the other 80% is left to your home care routine. That's a pretty big deal!
  3. Eat your fruits and veggies- just like mom always told you, fruits and vegetables are very important food groups. Things like leafy greens, avocados, and berries are a fantastic addition to your daily diet, and your skin will glow almost instantly!
  4. Drink plenty of H2O- there's varying information about how much water we should consume on a daily basis, but the most important thing is that you are consuming it. If plain water bores you and you can't seem to get enough down, try adding fresh fruit  to your water to give it a little flavor! My favorites are strawberry + mint, cucumber + mint, pineapple, and watermelon + mint (I guess I'm a little mint crazy).
  5. Get your beauty rest- a full 8 hours makes anyone more happy, and we all know the happiest girls are the prettiest!
  6. SPF protection- all day, every day of at least a 30 spf or higher.
  7. Everything you do to your face, do to your neck, chest, and hands as well. This goes specifically for serums, creams, and treatment masques. Many times, a women's chest or hands can be a tell-tell sign of her age.
And of course there are always things to avoid:

  • Smoking
  • Excessive sugar, white foods (think white bread, potatoes, rice, etc), alcohol, dairy
  • Processed foods
  • UV/A rays & of course, tanning beds
  • Stress- I know, I know…stress is everywhere. Trying to avoid as much excessive stress as possible really can make a difference in your appearance- not to mention your peace of mind. Try simple things like meditation, praying, yoga, or taking walks to lower your stress levels on a daily basis.
